Texas Roadhouse CEO Gives His Earnings and Bonus to Support Employees During the Pandemic
The coronavirus pandemic has gotten the best of us. While redundancies are being made around the world, and people are running out of money, there are still some mortals who live for humanity. One such person is Kent Taylor, the CEO of Texas Roadhouse.
When coronavirus started taking a toll in the United States, Taylor quickly began making decisions for his employees’ well-being. Masks, latex gloves, and eyewear were distributed in 600 different outlets of his restaurant. The food chain also created stimulus packages for its workers.
Establishing Values
Texas Roadhouse CEO gives away his money to employees
Taylor says that this is just how he was brought up; he does what feels right. The CEO has further added that, right now, we’re going through a time where one will have to lift everyone and take care of the people around.
Even though the country is in the phase of a lockdown where the market isn’t doing good, the eatery owner has still donated all of his yearly salary and bonus that totals over $800,000. There are no layoffs or pay-cuts being made from the company’s side, either.
Another $5 million have been donated to an emergency fund from his pocket. This reserve was, too, set up for the employees about eighteen years ago to help them with rent, funeral expenses, bills, operations, etc. It’s said that, otherwise, these things would take most of the money from the workers’ paycheck, what would be left then?
During the shutdown, the funds were getting used up rather quickly. As soon as it was brought to Taylor’s attention, he gave away his own income.
A Household Thought
Helping the people in need – doing a noble deed!
The CEO reports that he considers everyone under 55 a child, so he has around 70,000 kids he’d like to take good care of. These people can be personally related to—they’re family.
Knowing what it is like to struggle expands the way you think, you can’t see a loved one going through the same pain. When Texas Roadhouse was still new, Taylor was raising two daughters as a single parent, for which he had to take his own parents’ support sometimes.
The moment when life isn’t going well, a sudden urge to give to the world rushes in, as other individuals are helping you get through it. People think that the feeling leaves when you’re stable again, but it actually stays. Later, you want to lend a hand in the same way.
Circulation
People appreciate the CEO’s efforts
The response to Taylor’s efforts is great. He has received a ton of thank you letters – some of which have made him weep, too.
The man hopes that the employees learn from this generosity. He just wants to transfer the love and empathy to other people.
